Awesome Capcom News

Capcom held its Spring Gamer’s day in San Francisco a few days ago.  Detailed reporting available through Kotaku.

Two things really, really stand out and make me happy.

First, above all else, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix!!!!!!! This is incredible, incredible news.  SPF2T is one of my favorite games of all time, and I once played it semi-obsessively.  It’s going to be re-released with new HD graphics and, more importantly, network play!!  Yet another reason to get a XBOX 360.

The other thing is the formal announcement of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, the 3rd Phoenix Wright game.  There had been rumors of it earlier in the week, including a release date of 9/25/07, but the confirmation at the show was great.

Coincidentally, Gyakuten Saiban 4 (the 4th Phoenix Wright game) is coming out right about now in Japan.  Unlike previous Phoenix Wright releases for DS, it will not have an English language version included with the Japanese game.  The games are succeeding well enough in the US that I think it’s inevitable it will be brought over though – and I for one can’t wait.

PSP Gets Even Better

I’ve never been a particularly big fan of the PSP, and I don’t own one myself.  Still, partly through its own merits and partly through the efforts of some highly motivated and skilled hackers, the PSP is definitely a cool little toy.  It’s got an admittedly extremely good screen, great graphics, a number of very good games, and an incredible homebrew scene.  Now, it’s been reported that the latest firmware update, v. 3.30, comes with 6 months of free wifi access through T-mobile hotspots.  That is pretty awesome, and definitely a great step toward making up for many of the less-than-friendly things Sony PR has said over the past few years.

Additionally, Gizmodo reports that Sony is developing a system for fans of Arsenal, the British soccer team, to view the game on their PSPs while they are at the stadium.  This is pretty cool news – definitely, sometimes a screen will give you a better overview of things than actual seats, depending on where you are sitting.  If this expands, it could definitely be a really great feature of the PSP.
